{"id":298,"date":"2018-09-27T12:53:07","date_gmt":"2018-09-27T17:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jacobncalvert.com\/?p=298"},"modified":"2018-09-27T12:53:07","modified_gmt":"2018-09-27T17:53:07","slug":"into-the-3d-printer-game-i-went","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jacobncalvert.com\/blog-archive\/2018\/09\/27\/into-the-3d-printer-game-i-went\/","title":{"rendered":"Into the 3D printer game I went!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve always wanted to try my hand at 3D printing, but prices were too high and the machines required too much maintenance&#8230; until recently.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve purchased a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Creality-Ender-3-Printer-Extruder-Filament%EF%BC%89\/dp\/B07FFLBWH2\/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=industrial&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1538069723&amp;sr=1-1-spons&amp;keywords=creality+ender+3&amp;psc=1\">Creality Ender 3 printer from Amazon<\/a> in the past month or so. I grabbed the printer, along with a roll of grey AmazonBasics PLA, and decided to try my hand at 3D printing. My &#8220;all-in&#8221; budget was around $250, shipped.<\/p>\n<p>Now this printer is unique in several ways. It has a heated print bed, which is a nice upgrade. It features SD card printing, as well as a USB interface. The most unique aspect however, is that it comes as a DIY kit! That&#8217;s right, the unit flat-packed &#8220;Ikea-style&#8221; and you put it together yourself. I&#8217;ll admit, it made me a bit nervous because everything has to be &#8220;just-right&#8221; to print successfully. I&#8217;m happy to say that things went swimmingly!<\/p>\n<p>The installation manual is mostly diagrams, but they are very well done.
